Tea cosies are truly back in fashion, used to cover you tea pot or coffee pot the tea cosy will keep your tea warm as you chatter about the gossip of the day. Originally from the 19th Century the tea cosy was used to cover the pot to keep it warm as the Victorians chattered about the social affairs of the day.

Tea cosies come in many styles and were historically made from mainly linen, the Jan Constantine Tea cosies that we stock are linen but have been elevated by a fine embroidery and appliqué.

The first tea came to Britain in 1660 but it was nearly 200 years later when the first mention of tea cosy was documented.

The first record of a tea cosy was in 1867 and this was associated to the Duchess of Bedford, she was noted for making afternoon tea popular and therefore the creation of the tea cosy.

In America the tea cosy became very popular at about the same time, possibly trying to replicate the brutishness that would have existed in part of the continent.
